# Software Engineering Management

Software Engineering managers oversee the design and implementation of our product. Their responsibilities include directing the work of engineers to ensure the quality of our product, writing code, code reviews, hunting down bugs, pairing with teammates, and developing best practices materials for the developers and QAs. Besides helping the team to solve technical problems they also delegate tickets, create work schedules, and translate technical content to non-technical stakeholders.

Growing in this framework includes developing a thorough knowledge of software architecture design, making important technical decisions based on product change requests, analyzing technical problems and opportunities to improve our product quality by getting all the way into the code, and making technical recommendations to improve the development quality based on deep-dive findings. It's also essential to have a deep influence and knowledge on product development from an end-user perspective and overall market behavior understanding.

## Progression

In order to progress in our development path and Level Up or Step Up, our Software Engineering Managers must:

* Meet the criteria of the Level & Step Chart for [Management Path](/how-we-ensure-peoples-growth/performance/paths/management-path.md)
* Demonstrate proficiency in the Software Engineering Realm<br>
